Iris's Backstory

In loving memory of
Iris Grace Ann Perry
28.04.2018 - 30.04.2018

Iris was diagnosed with a sacrococcygeal teratoma at 22 weeks gestation. A sacrococcygeal teratoma is an unknown tumour at the base of the spine. This effects 1 in every 40,000 babies, usually it isn't fatal. Iris was born via classical cesarean at 32 weeks on the 28th April 2018, weighing 7lb 6oz (5lb 8oz without tumour) She came into the wold screaming, with a full head of hair & the cutest button nose I've ever seen.

After Iris was born it became obvious that the tumour was worse than originally thought, Iris should have had surgery at 6 weeks old, however 1 day after her birth the decision was made that she had to have surgery to remove the sacrococcygeal teratoma at 2 days old. The reason for this was that the tumour continued to grow after her birth at a rapid rate. If it was left it would have burst. Iris had surgery on the 30th April 2018, the severity of the tumour made it impossible for the surgeon to save her, she fought so hard in surgery.

Iris passed away in theater at Bristol children's hospital. She is missed so much and is spoken about every day.

Always in our hearts, forever,
Iris Grace Ann Perry
